I walked the Camino to Santiago from Porto in Portugal in November 2013 and have a fair idea of what to pack and wear. The Camino Primitivo is substantially longer and weather predictions promise very chilly mornings, cool afternoons with a good probability of rain on many days. I have been training hard and am probably as fit as I could hope to be (many thanks Marikus Swart at Sports Science!). The broken tendon in my right foot which renders the big toe pretty much useless will not deter (and hopefully not discourage perambulation). The protracted journey to Oviedo via Addis Ababa and Gatwick should encourage a pressing desire to walk. I leave Cape Town on Wednesday afternoon (4 April) and hope to arrive in Oviedo Thursday night.
