Apologies that I’ve not been able to post the pics that should have accompanied yesterday’s post.
For supper last night we returned to the pizzeria where we’d eaten the previous evening after an unpleasant reception in the restaurant we’d chosen for its proximity to our hotel. We were served by the same chap and felt like old friends by the time we left with warm handshakes and promises to meet again 🙂 We both had a hamburger with chips with our beer (and a glass of red) … all excellent.
We set out at 8.15 this morning long before there was anyone on the streets and only shortly after sunrise. Took a pic with a statue of St James that marks the route as it leaves the city and heads through the suburbs. Both feeling very bright eyed, bushy tailed and eager to get walking in the countryside which started proper a few kms further on. Once in the rural we remarked to tedium on the splendid day (no rain or wind), splendid beauty of trees, ferns, moss, grass, flowers, rivers, birds, cow bells … etc as we walked up hill and down through the tiny villages. etc :-). The villages feature a mixture of farming activity and derelict abandoned properties.
At about noon we stopped and had coffee and a sandwich in a small bar/restaurant. By 2 o’clock we were taking the surrounding beauty for granted and counting down the kms/hours to Grado where we were to be collected at 4pm and transferred to our hotel about 12 kms outside Grado. Thankfully. Grado is a grim dump. We arrived with a few minutes to spare.
The hotel Casa de La Veiga where were spending the night is cozy, comfortable and charming.
Today’s stats:
27 kms; 35500 steps; 3200 calories ……. we are both tired and sore and looking forward to a good night’s sleep. Tomorrow’s route is shorter but tougher.
Really enjoying the blog Les. Thank you for being so thoughtful.
