Last night we had supper (pizza) in Cafe Centro (seems there’s one in every village) across the street from the hotel.
The hotel is small and very comfortable under the personal care of the owners. Breakfast was toasted baguette halves with ham, cheese and jams, muffins and yoghurt ……. and cafe solo grande (large black).
My room (with balcony) overlooks the Collegiata de Salvador, a large church dating back to the 12th century, around the same time that this village was founded specifically to cater and care for pilgrims; the wide arched porch running around the church provided shelter from the wind and rain. Unfortunately we haven’t as yet found it open. There’s a small lounge next to my bedroom where I’m sitting as I write.
The village is tiny (population about 1000) and very pretty. The Ethnographic Museum provides a glimpse into rural life in this area in times past – fascinating and a superb collection and representation of bygone days; tradition shop, barber, school room, bedroom, hospital, weaving, wine making, blacksmith, etc. Excellent !
Over the last three days we walked 70kms – all graded 5/5 in difficulty (1/5 being easy).
In the next three days we’ll be walking 86kms; 60 kms graded 4/5 and 26kms graded 3/5.
Hopefully we’ll have a few dry days. The weather today is lovely – some blue sky and cool 10 degrees.
Spring should be in the air but there’s little sign of it and the trees are mucho leafless 🙂
Hasta luego!
Love to you both from Bob and I. We are loving the pics and daily updates. Scenery and quaintness of the villages is absolutely beautiful. Thanks for giving us a little peek into this wonderful experience. Hugs xx
