On our first night in Bled we suppered in a recommended restaurant on the lake not far from our hotel. We both had seafood; superb and when we couldn’t find the recommended restaurant the following evening we happily returned for another excellent meal (Slovenian with an strong Mediterranean influence).
With yesterday being a rest day we cycled around Lake Bled in wonderful sunshine before taking a boat (rowed!) across to the famous church on the island and returned to our hotel just in time to beat the rain.
We had a transfer to the start of our hike today driving through the stunning mountains that dominate the landscape; warm and sunny. Most of the hike is downhill descending from 1350m to 520m.
The first 5 kms were a dawdle; gentle gradients, wide smooth gravel tracks, forest, mountain pastures, spring flowers, very quiet villages, quaint chapels, beautiful scenery.
The next 3 kms weren’t as pretty; steep rocky footpaths, stretches of deep mud, difficult underfoot, trekking poles working hard.
At the end of this tricky stretch we stopped for a protein bar looking down on the pretty town of Srednja and across at brilliant green pastures and mountains.
The last 6kms were easy walking mainly on tar road and we were delighted and relieved to catch our first glimpse of the lake about 2 kms out.
We arrived at our hotel minutes before the rain.
And so ends another hiking tour in the mountains.
Well done you two!!
Really enjoying your hike! Still have to go through your Camino and Mont Blanc Ruhrminations. Hoping to do some hiking in Europe myself maybe next year. Did the Fish River canyon in Namibia again this year. It’s like a pilgrimage for us. Will probably start with the Italian alps.
