We had supper last night at a restaurant recommended for Slovenian food and were not disappointed; platter of thinly sliced cold meats and liver pate followed by meat and potato hotpot with dumplings… and a very delicious dessert.
Our apartment had two bedrooms and unfortunately Rob’s room (upstairs) looked down on the street which was buzzing with noisy Saturday night resellers into the early hours of this morning. My room was quiet and I clocked 9 hours.
The Church of the Annunciation has a magnificent organ which I was delighted to hear at Mass this morning.
The drive to Jezersko took about an hour with our driver battling to find the “apartment” house which is right on the “main” (and only) road; there can’t be more than 30 houses in the whole village; charming, quiet and scenic (even the local graveyard is pretty).
The apartment is in a house owned by an elderly couple who live in the house and sprecken ze zilch English. Their daughter (who speaks fair English) looks after the guests and the family welcomed us warmly and emotionally with a mother/daughter duet and a toast with their special pear based schnapps. Wonderful.
Our bedroom is two beds lined up head to toe in the attic …….
We filled our water reservoirs for tomorrow’s hike with spring mineral water from a tap a few kms walk from our accommodation and took a detour on the way back to visit a very pretty lake with crystal clear water (were we’ll be walking back for supper tonight).
It’s been raining in this area for the past week and tomorrow’s forecast is similar as we head out for a real taste of these imposing mountains.
